Style Recommendation: It’s Vans Season

Style Recommendation: It’s Vans Season

It’s getting to be the time of year where the weather gets just warm enough for me to ditch my socks and boots for a fresh pair of Authentics. There’s something unquestionably liberating about sliding barefoot into a pair of Vans. Every Spring I start to look out for some unique new pieces of footwear from this iconic California based company, so here’s a few pairs that will keep you ahead of the curve:

Golden Coast Collection Authentic: Released for the spring season, the retro checkerboard pattern is something that has become synonymous with punk and ska cultures over the last two decades. I like how this version takes a fresh spin on the design with colors that pop. The solid toe panel on some of these also break up all the checkerboard, making it a well balanced sneaker.

Zio Ziegler x Vans Sk8-Hi Collab: Brought on to design a line of sneakers, artist Zio Ziegler manages to capture a great balance between subtle textures and chaotic, colorful graphics inspired by 90’s graffiti and skate culture. I usually won’t buy high tops for the Spring, but I could make an exception for these.

J. Crew x Vans Two-Tone Denim Authentic: If you’re looking for a more reserved, grown-up pair of Vans, then this is your shoe. The two tone denim panels are quiet, but bold. This is a versatile shoe good for just about anything.

Vans Authentic “Kenya”: Inspired by some of the iconic scenery of Kenya, this pair of authentics boasts a bold, colorful print for those that are really trying to stand out of the crowd. You can’t deny that this shoe has single-handedly cornered the sneakerhead/zebra enthusiast market.

Vans Slip-On “Hawaiian Floral”: There’s no better way to welcome Spring than by rocking colorful flowers on your feet. I like these better as slip-ons because they have more of a laid-back vibe and are perfect when you’re hanging out near the beach.

Vans Era “Van Doren”: Nothing says throwback like a sweet pair of authentics with a design inspired by classic prints. The orange fish theme gives off a cool Yellow Submarine animation vibe. These will be a bright, bold pair to wear as the spring fades into the summer.

Vans Old Skool “Sidestripe”: For those of you who like a little more beefiness to your shoe, then I would suggest the Old Skool. These new colorways released for the Spring are subtle, but very sleak.

Star Wars x Vans Authentic: Sure, maybe walking around with Tie Fighters plastered all over your feet doesn’t seem like a great fashion statement, but one really awesome product did come out of Vans’ collaboration with Star Wars. The Yoda Hawaiian Floral print shoe is still a little wacky, but in an awesome way. The colors pop and the design is subtle enough that you wouldn’t even realize it’s Star Wars themed at a passing glance. But this is a great way rock a nice pair of sneakers and show your pride for the Republic.

Liberty Art Fabrics x Vans Collection: For all the ladies out there looking to find a great, unique pair of sneakers for the Spring season, check these out. The graphic prints are dope and the color schemes are really vibrant and expressive. This specific pair depicts images from Alice In Wonderland.

Taka Hayashi x Vans Vault Authentic “Paradise”: This is by far the most refreshing design I have seen on a pair of sneakers in a very long time. I’m actually looking forward to receiving these in a few weeks. I like the intricacy of the design mixed with the subtle colors of the fabric. They stand out just enough to be noticed, but don’t require any extra flash. If you want a pair of shoes that pretty much nobody on your block will own, buy these. They’re a guaranteed head turner.
